Comboyne Public School Public Speaking

Last week we held our school impromptu speaking contest to select representatives for the inaugral small schools competition. Eva Germanos and Grace McKenzie represented Stage 3 and Anthony Marco represented Stage 2. They all spoke confidently and clearly presenting well organised information they had only 5 minutes to prepare. Grace was able to gain second place with her topic "Everybody should ride a bicycle". This is an initiative planned by our community of schools to address the need to improve impromptu speaking skills and it was a resounding success. We had spent the first two weeks of this term practicing the skills needed to present a speech with very limited preparation time and all the Stage 2 and 3 class improved dramatically. They will be able to transfer those skills into their preparation for the School Speech Night which will be held from 6:30 at the school on Wednesday 14 August. Community members are most welcome to come and see the talent of our students on our speech night. Everyone participates from the youngest Kindergarten to the oldest Year 6 student speaking on a topic of their choice. Our friends from Wauchope Apex come to adjudicate and select the most successful speakers to compete in the Apex Public Speaking Contest held in September.
