Rules and policies

Rules and policies are in place to make sure your child remains safe and well at school.

Visit the NSW Department of Education’s policy library for all current operational policies.

Our school uses the department's School Community Charter to ensure all of our communication is collaborative and respectful.

In this section we cover:

  • Attendance and absences
  • School frameworks which list our policies including Work health and safety policy and Positive behaviour learning (PBL)

Attendance and absences

Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.

In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent and remain in school, employment or training until they turn 17.

For more information about compulsory school attendance, visit:

School frameworks (school rules)

As well as following the department’s operational policies, we have developed frameworks for our students in line with our school’s values and commitments.

Work health and safety

The NSW Department of Education and Communities believes that the provision of a safe working and learning environment for everyone at its workplaces is an integral and essential part of its responsibilities as a provider of public education and other community services.

The WHS Policy sets out work health and safety requirements and the Department's commitment to the health and safety of everyone in its workplaces.

For more information see the departments WH&S Policy or the WHS Policy Summary (PDF 161KB)

We also have a local emergency management plan (DOCX 456KB).

Positive Behaviour Learning

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a school-wide behaviour initiative that has been that has been implemented by the staff and students of Comboyne Public School. It encourages positive behaviour from all students through the development of a shared language to discuss behaviour expectations at school. The behaviour expectations are presented in the form of a Student Expectations Matrix.

Our matrix consists of our aims and values.

We aim to:

  • be fair
  • be safe

We follow the values of:

  • growing
  • sharing
  • learning
  • caring
